ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Police say a customer inadvertently helped discover a credit card skimmer that had been placed on a gas pump in St. Pete.
It was just before 9 a.m. when the frustrated customer complained to a clerk about the pump’s malfunctioning card reader at the Shell Station at 3801 66th Street N.
The gas station attendant checked and noticed the security tape had been disturbed and a skimming device had been placed inside the pump. Investigators believe it was placed there sometime between Wednesday at 3 p.m. and 8:49 a.m. Thursday.
“Customers who may have used the pumps at that Shell station during that time period may want to check their credit card/bank accounts,” an SPPD spokesperson warned.
