TAMPA (FOX 13) - Hillsborough Sheriff Deputy David Lott may have been the last person to see Meaghan Casedy alive.
Hours later she was found murdered and dumped behind a strip mall in Riverview.
"She appeared to be intoxicated," said Lott.
Deputy Lott, who was off-duty and headed home, spotted the defendant's car parked along as isolated road and pulled up behind him.
He says Jose Gonzalez told him he and his girlfriend were fooling around. He then turned his attention to Meaghan.
"I asked her if she's okay, is there anything I can help her with? I was trying to determine if there was some sort of domestic altercation," he said.
He said Meaghan told him she was fine. The two were then free to go.
Hours later Freddie Davis was on his morning route collecting trash when he when spotted what he thought was a mannequin.
"But as I proceeded driving closer it made me think, maybe that's a human being, so at that point, I stopped the truck," said Davis.
It was Meagan Casedy.
Prosecutors say she had been raped and strangled to death by Gonzalez, who she just met at a bar and accepted a ride from.
Later a crime scene investigator told the jury a substance which appeared to be blood was found in the defendant's car. She also showed them pictures of scratch marks and wounds Gonzalez had on his face and arms. Evidence prosecutors say indicates Meaghan was fighting with her killer until the very end.
