A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and and a man from St. Petersburg sprang into action to save 3 people after their boat capsized.

Corporal Jim Covert was patrolling the Skyway Bridge when he saw an overturned boat approximately 200 yards offshore with the 3 slitting on the overturned vessel.

Covert radioed for help but was told there were no rescue crafts in the area. The trooper saw David Teichman who was in the area with his jet ski.

Teichman immediately went to the boat and safely transported all 3 boaters to shore.

According to authorities, the boaters launched from St. John's Pass, traveled to the Skyway Bridge, began to take water, and were later capsized by large waves.
