Man's body found off coast of Clearwater Beach

- Detectives need help identifying a man whose body was found floating off the coast of Clearwater Beach Tuesday morning.

Clearwater police say a boater spotted the man, described only as a middle-aged white man, and alerted emergency officials shortly before 11 a.m.

Several agencies, including the Coast Guard, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit responded to the scene.

Crews worked together to pull the man’s body from the water, and have since taken him to the Coast Guard Station on Sand Key.

Initial reports from sheriff’s deputies said the man’s body was attached to a floating crab trap. Clearwater police later added he was dressed as if he might have been swimming.

Now, detectives are urging anyone who knows of a missing man in the area to contact the Clearwater Police Department.
