Six boaters were rescued Sunday night after their boat started to sink near Pass Inlet in Sarasota, and the Coast Guard says everyone should pay attention to their story.

The boaters radioed in just before 7 p.m.   They said their boat was taking on water and it was sinking.

Immediately, the Coast Guard responded and, when they found the boaters, they say they had followed all the safety rules. Their actions led to a textbook rescue.

"These boaters did everything right,” offered Seaman Jordan Milanes.  “They had a VHF radio on board. They contacted us through the radio. They had enough life jackets on board for everybody. They did everything right. They stayed calm, cool and collected."
