8-year-old hit by car on N. Florida Ave.

- Traffic was blocked in both directions on N. Florida Avenue after an 8-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle while walking to school. 

8-year-old Vanessa Marquez was struck in the face by the side-view mirror of a passing car as she stepped off the curb on N. Florida Avenue, according to Tampa police. 

She has been transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are on the scene of an accident, potentially involving a pedestrian, on N. Florida Avenue near Hollywood Street. North Florida Avenue was closed to traffic in both directions between Hanlon and Stanley Streets while emergency crews respond. 

As of 8:45 a.m., police reported that northbound lanes have reopened. Southbound traffic remains closed while officers investigate the crash. 

At this time, police say it does not appear that the driver in this crash will be cited.
