CLEARWATER BEACH (FOX 13) - Several people were rescued and said to be safe Tuesday afternoon, after their sailboats capsized during high winds off Clearwater Beach.
The boats were part of a sailboat race near Pier 60. Coast Guard and local boaters helped rescue people tossed into the water.
Clearwater Public Safety was also involved with the rescue, bringing a helicopter and boats to help.
The capsized boats were one mile west of Clearwater Pass. Gale force winds made Gulf waters extremely rough Tuesday.
