13-year-old girl arrested for crashing stolen car

- The aftermath of a crash in Pinellas Park looked like a bomb went off. Police there said the damage was done by a 13-year-old in a stolen minivan.

"It was horrible it looked like a war zone had happened out here," homeowner Donna Mastin explained.

A tree in front of Mastin's home stopped the stolen Honda Odyssey van, driven by 13-year-old Jade Miller, from plowing into the front of her house.

Pinellas Park police said it happened late Wednesday night when Miller stole the van in Pasco County and made her way to Pinellas Park. Officers spotted her driving recklessly on 82nd Avenue and tried to stop her.

Miller reportedly turned off all the vehicle's lights kept driving. Not long afterward, she smashed through the brick subdivision wall at Bayou Pointe, then tried to run from officers. The caught up with her a short distance away from the crash scene.

"I feel blessed this tree was here. She would've gone straight into my house," Mastin said. "Somebody needs to keep a reign on her. People need to be held accountable for what they do. I don't care what their age is."

Pinellas Park police agreed. Miller faces a felony charge of grand theft auto and leaving the scene of a crash.

"I hope it is something that stands out in her mind, that this is not what typical behavior should be and this is a change in whatever is going on with her," Sgt. Mike Lynch with the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

Mastin said the homeowners association pay to have the wall in front of her home fixed. As for the damage to the home itself, most of it would likely be covered by insurance.

Mastin said she was just glad no one was hurt.
