Life sentence given to man who killed girlfriend

- Tales of murder, jealousy and a secret sex life were all part of the murder trial of Michael Fields. He was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend during a jealous rage.

Thursday, he learned he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

It was very emotional day for everyone hurt by the tragic death of Christina Mahzamani - especially her children.

Her daughter was only 13 when her mother was brutally murdered.

"I lived in fear for such a long time. I cried randomly, I have nightmares," Mahzamani's daughter said in court.

She was robbed of a lifetime memories with mom.

"My mother will never help me get ready for prom, she won't see me graduate, she won't be the maid of honor at my wedding," she said.

Prosecutors said Fields and Mahzamani were swingers and invited Rico Whittaker to join them in the bedroom. They said Christina soon started having feelings for Whittaker, and she wanted to end things with Fields.

"She slipped a piece of paper in my boot with her number," Whittaker said on the stand.

That's when prosecutors say Fields lost it and, in a jealous rage, beat Christina to death with a concrete block.

At his sentencing, a family friend read a statement from Christina's mother.

"Michael Fields has no conscience at all.. taking a mother away from her children.. no conscience," the family friend read.

Then Hillsborough Judge Michelle Sisco had her say.

"I was absolutely stunned, shocked," she said of her thoughts on the crime. "When human beings become de-valued, in my opinion, they did. When they become sheer sexual objects or otherwise, then you cease to see people as human beings anymore and the sanctity of life ceases to exist as well."

Without hesitation, Judge Sisco sentenced him to life in prison. Fields did not have a visible reaction to the sentencing and never addressed the court.
