Southbound I-75 shut down for hours after tanker crash

The southbound lanes of I-75 in North Port have been closed since around 5 a.m. Sunday.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a fuel tanker crashed in the southbound lanes, leading to a fuel spill.

Traffic is being diverted off the highway at Toledo Blade Boulevard (Exit 179). Drivers will then be detoured onto US 41 before getting back onto the highway via Veterans Boulevard.

Photos from the scene show fuel and debris strewn across the highway.

The driver of the tanker was injured in the crash, troopers said.

The southbound lanes are expected to reopen early Monday morning.
