These flowering plants can make a bold and beautiful statement, and a festival for it is coming to the Bay Area.

The Caladium Festival will be held in the nation’s caladium capital; right in Lake Placid, Florida. The are often referred to as elephant ears, Heart of Jesus and Angel Wings, and are grown in large fields and have been compared to the tulip fields in Holland for their beauty.

There are at least 40 varieties of red, white and pink plants and all combinations of the colors. They are truly works of art.

The annual festival celebrates the beautiful plant with caladium field tours, art competitions and vendors, bulb and plant sale, antique cars and live entertainment.

The festival is free to attend. There is a fee and reservations are required for the bus tour with a caladium farmer. It runs from July 27 to 29 at Stuart Park
