TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - Tampa's newest Dunkin Donuts hasn't even had its grand opening yet, but it's already been the target of an armed robbery.
Just after 1 a.m. Tuesday, a suspect approached the walk-up window at the new building, located at the corner of Cypress Street and Dale Mabry Highway. Tampa police said the suspect casually spoke to the clerk inside before pulling a gun out and demanding money.
Police said the suspect was given an undisclosed amount of cash and entered the passenger side of an awaiting vehicle with a driver inside. Both occupants inside fled, police said.
About a half-hour later, police were called to the 2001 Odyssey adult club a few blocks north after gunfire was reported. Two auto theft suspects had fled after being confronted by would-be victims, but both were arrested at the Scores Gentlemen's Club across the street.
Police said one of the suspects in the attempted car burglary, Nicholas Rene Rogers, was also the man responsible for the armed robbery at the Dunkin Donuts. They also believe the 28-year-old robbed the Walgreens on Kennedy Blvd. early yesterday, too.
The Dunkin Donuts has been open for nearly two weeks, and is located across from the construction site for the ongoing Midtown development project.
