As 2018 arrives, so does cold weather

It’s going to be a chilly start to 2018 in Florida.  The Sunshine State has been spared most of the frigid weather that’s gripped the rest of the country, but that will all change this week.

This morning’s showers marked the arrival of a cold front. Temperatures will drop through the day on their way down to the 40s and even 30s tonight, but moisture streaming in from the Gulf will keep the clouds in place.

“Cold air is settling in,” FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg offered.  “When it gets here, it’s not leaving.  The entire week, it’s not leaving.”

Over the next seven days, forecasters expect the pattern to continue.  There may be more sun later in the week, but it won’t be any warmer.

While the immediate Tampa Bay area shouldn’t see freezing temperatures, areas to the north could dip below 32.  Further north, the Florida Panhandle was already in the 20s this morning.
