Awning collapse causes several businesses to close

- A building's awning collapsed causing more than a dozen businesses to close while Hillsborough officials checked for structural damage. 

It happened just before 6 p.m. at the Nutri-Smart store near the intersection of Bearss Ave and Ehrlich Rd. When firefighters got there, they reported the awning had collapsed in front of the business.

An official with code enforcement told FOX 13 News 14 businesses closed Wednesday, and eight of those would remained closed until the structure can be investigated.

Fire crews evacuated the two surrounding businesses out of an abundance of caution. There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the collapse was unknown Wednesday evening.
