A small but fast-moving brush fire destroyed an empty mobile home in Polk County but crews were able to get the flames under control before things got worse.

Florida Forest Service and Polk County Fire Rescue crews battled the seven-acre fire off Sportsmans Trail in north Lakeland on Friday.

Several mobile homes were nearby.  An abandoned home and a garage were consumed and Lakeland Electric cut off power to other homes as a precaution.

A county spokesman said investigators believe a lawn mower sparked the blaze.

Just this morning, the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning, cautioning that extremely dry weather had created dangerous conditions for brush fires.
