Police are working to catch a burglar after a recent string of break-ins in a South Tampa community.

Tampa police detectives say in the past three weeks, the suspect has hit eight homes on the following streets:

  • MacDill Ave S
  • El Prado Blvd
  • Shamrock Rd S
  • Platt Street W
  • Barcelona St W
  • Manhattan Ave
  • Brookwood Dr
  • Estrella St W

They say he’s struck during the day, and has mainly taken jewelry.

A security system at one of the homes happened to catch the suspect in the act, and now police hope the public can help to identify him.

He’s described as a 6’0”, 170-pound, Hispanic male between 25 and 39 years old, with dark brown or black hair and no facial hair.

A witness also spotted the man in one of the victims’ driveways in a brownish, older model, four-door sedan.

The witnes said the man was neatly dressed, and was therefore mistaken for a salesman.

Detectives are asking for anyone with information to reach out, but they also encourage residents with security systems in the area to check footage for potential evidence.

Those who may be able to help crack the case are encouraged to call the Tampa Police Department 354-6600.
