Channelside hosts free dental care clinic for children

A charity organization will offer free dental care for children at Channelside Bay Plaza Wednesday through Friday.

The event is put on by Christina's Smile Children's Dental Clinic. The clinic holds similar events in cities that host PGA TOUR tournaments.

The event is at 615 Channelside Drive in Tampa March 9, 10 and 11 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.

Local dentists and assistants volunteer to give cleanings, sealants, fillings, crowns, root canal treatments and extractions to 120 children between the ages of 6- and 15-years-old. Approximately $85,000 to $95,000 worth of dentistry is delivered during the 3-day clinic.

In the Tampa area, the clinic is held in conjunction with the Valspar Championship and children are selected and organized by the Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Christina's Smile Children's Dental Clinic, in cooperation with the PGA TOUR, said it has provided almost $23.5 million worth of dental care to over 50,000 children in need since its inception in 1990.
