The lockdown at Clearwater High School has been lifted after it was determined that a student who alleged to have seen a gun on campus fabricated the incident.

The school was placed on lockdown just after 9 a.m. after a student reported seeing another student with a gun on campus.

Police said the student who alleged the incident happened called a parent, who picked the child up from school without informing the school about what happened. The school resource officer heard about the incident and called in additional police as a precaution.

Police interviewed witnesses and said at first the student and parent refused to cooperate.

During the interviews, police said the student admitted to fabricating the incident and said he didn't see a gun on campus.
