Clerk shoots robbery suspect at N. Tampa gas station

- Tampa police said a gas station clerk shot a suspected robber at the Hope Food Store in north Tampa Monday.

The Tampa Police Department said 22-year-old Anthone Bryant is suspected of trying to rob the convenient store while armed with a knife.

Officers say the store's clerk called 911 shortly afterward, saying he shot the suspect after multiple ignored warnings.

There were people inside the store who witnessed the incident.

When TPD arrived, an officer performed CPR on the suspect, who was later taken to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The clerk was not injured and police said he was cooperating with the investigation.

"The clerk appears to be fine. Appears he's a little bit shaken up, and now we're questioning him to see exactly what happened. But it seems like it’s pretty straight forward what happened," TPD's Stephen Hegarty explained to reporters on the scene.

Hope Food Store is located at 4002 22nd Street North in Tampa.
