Coach arrested for altering checks meant for softball team

- A Polk County high school teacher and softball coach was arrested on Monday.

Kaelin Mancuso, 28, is a physical education teacher and softball coach at Kathleen High School in Lakeland.

Mancuso is accused of altering checks that were written for the softball team by whiting out the team's name and replacing it with her name.

According to investigators, three checks totaling $700 were changed and deposited into Mancuso's personal bank account. The checks were originally written for a sponsorship banner and work the team did for other organizations.

Mancuso is charged with grand theft, three counts of forgery and three counts of passing a forged instrument.

Polk County school district officials said she has been placed on paid administrative leave and an internal investigation is underway.
