Rail car tumbles from trailer, killing motorist

A Lithia man was killed when a railroad car tumbled from a trailer during an accident this afternoon, slamming into his pickup truck.

According to deputies, the chain reaction crash started when Shereen Aziz, 45, pulled out from a driveway along Lithia Pinecrest Road and into the path of a semi-truck pulling a trailer loaded with a railroad rail car.

The truck swerved to avoid Aziz's Chevy Impala, but that's when the rail car came off the trailer and struck the pickup truck.  The pickup's driver, Michael Warren Liverett, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continues.  Charges are pending.

Deputies say the road will remain closed until heavy equipment arrives to remove the railroad car and trailer from the roadway.
