Detectives have arrested a Largo man after they say he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend’s toddler and rammed her stepfather's truck in his getaway.

It was around 10 p.m. Sunday when Pinellas deputies were called to Jasmine Golden’s Largo home for a reported domestic disturbance.  She told them that her ex, Johnny Wise, had smashed several windows after getting into an argument, then threatened to kill her 2-year-old son.  He then allegedly took the boy and fled in his car.

Detectives say Jasmine Golden’s 59-year-old stepfather witnessed the fight and hopped in his pickup truck to follow Wise.  At the intersection of 6th Street SW and 4th Avenue SW, Wise allegedly threw his Buick in reverse and slammed into the pursuing truck, leaving it badly damaged.

Wise sped off but, investigators say, he grabbed the toddler and bailed out of the car on foot. He later dropped the boy off with a family member, though deputies were unable to find the 27-year-old.

Thursday night, they caught up with him along Williams Drive in Largo. He now faces several charges, including kidnapping and attempted felony murder.
