BRANDON, Fla. (FOX 13) - Deputies say a 27-year-old man tried to blow up more than a dozen government vehicles at a military recruiting site in Brandon.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the lot on West Brandon Boulevard because 16 government cars and one civilian car had their gas tanks pried open with rags and sticks stuffed inside.
Michael Gordon, 27, was taken into custody after returning to the scene. During an interview with detectives, he allegedly talked about wanting to blow up the vehicles because, "the generals won't surrender to the kingdom of god." He also supposedly referred to himself as "Michael the Archangel."
Deputies say Gordon had two lighters on him and admitted to having charcoal lighter fluid. He is now charged with criminal mischief and attempted arson.
Vehicles in the parking lot were the property of the U.S. Army, Navy, National Guard, Air Force, and Marine Corps.
