Deputies: Son stole $100,000 from father
BROOKSVILLE (FOX 13) - A Hernando County man is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from his father.
The sheriff's office says Vincent Caliendo got power of attorney over his father who had been diagnosed with early-stage dementia. But his father still paid his bills and noticed a large amount of money missing from his accounts.
Investigators say Caliendo withdrew $105,000, spending part of it at restaurants, hotels, and on cell phone bills. He even tried get a reverse mortgage on his father's home, they said.
Caliendo, 39, was arrested in South Carolina as a result of a CrimeStopper tip, and has since been brought back to Florida to face charges.
