Detectives investigate deputy involved shooting in Largo

- Detectives are investigating a deputy involved shooting in unicorporated Largo after a man pointed a rifle at deputies Monday night.

At about 9 p.m. Monday, deputies were called to a residence located at 14530 Oliver Street to check the welfare of, 25-year-old Logan Ullrich. Logan's girlfriend, who lived out of state, was worried that Logan was expressing suicidal thoughts, concerned that Logan may have a weapon and might hurt himself.

Deputies say they met with Logan and his parents, Cathrine and Terry Ullrich. They determined that Logan did not meet the criteria for a Baker Act, meaning he did not present a danger to himself or others, and the deputies left.

But shortly after, at about 10:20 p.m., Logan's father called deputies back to the scene from the neighbor's residence informing deputies that Logan's behavior had gotten worse. When deputies arrived, they staged outside the home at a nearby intersection.

Deputies Paul Langlais and Benjamin Fisher  were able to speak on the phone with Logan's mother, and say during the call they overheard Logan in the background attempting to arm himself.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Logan exited the residence armed with a 30-06 rife, and ran westbound on Oliver Street towards deputies at Hamlin Boulevard.

Detectives say that deputies gave Logan verbal commands to drop the rifle, but he refused and continued towards the deputies. Logan turned and leveled the rife towards the deputies when Sergeant Paul Langlais and Deputy Benjamin Fisher fired multiple shots striking Logan once in the leg.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Logan to Bayfront Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

No deputies were injured. The investigation continues.
