Dooley released on bond, awaits new trial

SPRINGHILL (FOX 13) - Trevor Dooley was convicted of killing a father- in front of his young daughter - on a basketball court back in 2010, but now he is out of jail and at his home in Springhill.

Dooley dodged reporters as he used a walker to leave jail Thursday. A judge granted him bond the day before.
He is now appealing his conviction for a second time.

Earlier this spring, Dooley won his appeal and was granted a new trial, but later the appeals court judge revised the ruling and granted him a new appeal.

Dooley claims there were errors made during jury instructions, and that his defense attorney was ineffective.

Back in 2010, Dooley shot and killed David James as the two argued over a skateboarder on the basketball court.
Dooley claimed it was self defense, but a jury convicted him of manslaughter.

He is serving an 8-year sentence. An appeals court has yet to rule on his case.
