WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (FOX 13) - An elderly man crashed his car into a Taco Bell in Winter Haven Saturday afternoon.
Winter Haven Police said 77-year-old Emmanuel Akowuah and his wife were getting ready to leave the fast food restaurant, located at 1799 3rd Street SW, around 4:30 p.m.
That's when Akowuah put his car in reverse, but then back into drive, causing the vehicle to jump the curb and crash into the building.
The SUV came to rest about 10 feet inside of the building, police said.
Neither Akowuah nor his wife were injured in the crash.
Investigators said a customer who was in the restaurant had been in the exact spot where the vehicle crashed, but had just gotten up to get more hot sauce when the SUV plowed into where he'd been sitting.
The building sustained significant damage, according to police.
