Driver killed after crashing into dump truck on US 19

- Police said a driver was killed and their passenger was seriously injured after crashing into a dump truck early Tuesday morning.

The accident happened on US 19 near Mainlands Boulevard in Pinellas Park.

According to police, the unidentified driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to slow down as they approached a dump truck in front of them.

The vehicle crashed into the back of the dump truck. Police said the driver died on impact. The passenger was taken to Bayfront hospital in serious condition.

US 19 was closed for some time following the crash, but it has since reopened.
