Drop-off unused prescription drugs on Saturday

Authorities are leading several drug take-back events in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties this weekend as part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

Authorities will be collecting unused prescription drugs at four locations in Hillsborough County and one in Pinellas County.

Anyone can drop off prescription medications they no longer use, and they can remain anonymous, no questions asked, authorities said.

The goal is to crack down on pill mills while helping to prevent prescription drug prescription by giving people a safe way to properly dispose of medications instead of flushing it down the toilet. "It's also a good idea not to leave old medication laying around the house. It can fall into the hands of those it was not intended for, and can also be an easy target for anyone breaking in to a residence," Clearwater police said.

The collection sites will be held at the following locations from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., April 30:

CVS
105 S. Pebble Beach Blvd.
Sun City Center, FL

Winn Dixie
2525 N. Dale Mabry Hwy.
Tampa, FL

CVS
2302 James L Redman Pkwy.
Plant City, FL

USF Morsani Center
13330 Laurel Drive

Westfield Countryside Mall (near L.A. Fitness at the mall)
27001 U.S. Highway 19 N.
Clearwater, FL
