Early voting for Presidential Preference Primary ending in Hillsborough, Polk

Early voting ends today in Hillsborough County.

The Robert L. Gilder Elections Service Center off Falkenburg Road in Tampa is one of 15 available for early voters in Hillsborough County.

Nine locations area available for Polk County voters.

Those headed to the polls are participating in the Presidential Preference Primary (PPP). According to the Florida Division of Elections, the PPP allows "voters registered with one of Florida’s major political parties " to "express their preference for the presidential candidate they would like to see representing their party on the General Election ballot in November. After the PPP, designated political party delegates from Florida formally nominate the preferred presidential candidate at the respective party’s national convention."

Florida is a closed primary state and early voters must be registered as Democrats or Republicans to participate in the primary. As of Monday, February 29, 2016 there are more than 790,000 people registered to vote in Hillsborough County.

The Hillsborough County polling locations will remain open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and weekends through Sunday March 13th.

Nine polling locations are available for Polk County early voters from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and Saturdays through March 12. The locations are scheduled to open Sunday March 6, 2016 for those who want to vote.

Florida early voting participants must be registered to vote in the state and should bring two forms of identification including a signature and photo. Acceptable forms of identification include:

  • Florida Driver License
  • Florida ID Card issued by the DMV
  • U.S. Passport
  • Debit or Credit Card
  • Military ID
  • Student ID
  • Retirement Center ID
  • Neighborhood Association ID
  • Public Assistance

Those who do not bring the correct forms of identification can vote by provisional ballot. For a complete list of voting locations, visit the Supervisor of Elections website for your area.
Early voting begins for the following counties on March 5:

  • Pinellas
  • Pasco
  • Hernando
  • Manatee
  • Sarasota

The Primary election is scheduled for March 15, 2016.
