'Heartbreaking': Bicyclist dies after being hit by car

- A cyclist that was hit by a car Monday, died Wednesday night of his injuries, according to family members.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 33-year-old Jonathan Day was riding his bike along Pretty Pond Road when a car hit him. Officials believe the driver became distracted and did not see Day.

Day was not far from Helping Rock, a transitional shelter where he had been living for about two months with his fiancée. The shelter helps people recovering from addictions to get back on track.

"You would never think something can happen so quickly. Really, it is heartbreaking,” said Eddy Reyes, who runs Helping Rock along with his wife, Wanda.

They say Day was making significant progress, got a job at a local car wash, and was looking forward to being reunited with his children.

Faye Delton, his fiancée, says being a family again was their motivation.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. They say charges against the driver are pending.
