Delays linger on WB I-4 after fatal crash

Westbound I-4 is backed up following a fatal crash early Tuesday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened at the Polk Parkway exit sometime around 4 a.m.

They say 26-year-old Darrell Woodren of Sanford, Fla. was in the outside eastbound lane when he suddenly lost control of his 2006 Isuzu, drove into the median, collided with the cable barrier and then overturned.

He was rushed to the hospital where he later passed away.

Both, the eastbound and westbound inside lanes were blocked for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

The eastbound lanes have since been cleared, but delays lingered for the westbound side of the interstate.

Westbound drivers looking for a quicker alternative are encouraged to exit I-4 at State Road 559 and take Commonwealth Avenue back to I-4.
