FHP: Alcohol a factor in State Road 60 wrong-way crash

- Troopers say an intoxicated driver turned the wrong way onto State Road 60 in Dover this afternoon, causing a head-on crash that badly injured himself and two other people.

It was around 12:15, troopers say, when James Cissell of Lithia turned from Turkey Creek Road into the eastbound lanes of Highway 60 -- headed westbound.  The pickup truck veered into the median, struck a sign post, then sideswiped three other vehicles before slamming into an oncoming Chevy Camaro.

The force of the head-on crash spun the Camaro, which came to rest in the median. Both women inside were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The truck flipped over after the crash and came to rest in the eastbound lanes.  Cissell, 75, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers say Cissell was intoxicated and charges are pending.

State Road 60 was closed while the accident was investigated and cleaned up.
