Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire inside a sulfur storage tank at the Mosaic facility in Riverview.

According to a company statement, the tank's fire suppression system was activated after the fire began inside the tank this afternoon.  Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews were called to the scene to assist while employees sheltered in place.

The view from SkyFOX showed an HCFR ladder truck dumping water onto the large tank.

Mosaic says they monitored sulfur dioxide emissions at the property line, and the public was never in danger.  "Results are well within government standards," a press release insisted.

Employees were told to shelter in place during the incident.

Earlier, U.S. Highway 41 had been shut down as emergency crew arrived, but the road has since reopened.
