The battle against a fire in rural Hernando County left a firefighter in the hospital this hot afternoon.

The blaze was at a double-wide mobile home on Soaring Hawk Lane. Neighbors there spotted the fire and called 911.

A Hernando County Fire Rescue spokesperson said a firefighter "went down" while fighting the flames and was taken to Dade City Hospital in critical condition, though he has since been upgraded to serious condition.  It appears he suffered a medical emergency that was heat-related.

Everyone inside the home escaped without injury, firefighters said.

In addition to the heat, the remote location of the fire made it tough on fire crews. Tanker trucks had to bring in water to fight the fire and keep it from spreading to the brush.

From SkyFOX, the mobile home appeared to be a total loss.  The cause of the fire was not clear.
