Five juvenile suspects arrested after carjacking, crime spree

Five juveniles, suspected in a carjacking and crime spree, were arrested in Pinellas County Saturday, with the help of three different law enforcement agencies.

The carjacking happened Friday evening at Meridian Pointe Apartments in Tampa. The victim told police two suspects pointed a gun at him and demanded he hand over his keys.

TPD said the stolen car, a Mercury Sable, was spotted at a robbery early Saturday, and then at an auto burglary on Ben T. Davis Beach on the Courtney Campbell Causeway later in the day.

A Tampa Police officer followed the car at a distance, across the bridge into Pinellas County, while he called for backup. He was joined by Clearwater police and Pinellas County sheriff's deputies, and then initiated a traffic stop.

The suspects took off, but the pursuit was short. The car stopped near McMullen Booth Road and Enterprise Road, and five suspects got out of the car and ran. Officers managed to round them all up, and said one had a firearm.
