Fleeing suspect crashes SUV into St. Petersburg store

A driver fled from police and crashed into a supermarket in St. Petersburg, police said.

Police said they initially responded to a call around 3:41 a.m. from a woman who said an armed person was threatening her.  Officers arrived near 7th Avenue South and 19th Street South and noticed a vehicle leaving the area.

By 3:43 a.m., a vehicle, possibly the one seen leaving earlier, crashed into Midtown Supermarket, located at 18th Avenue South and 19th Street South in St. Pete. Officials identified the driver as 32-year-old Charles Reed after he was seen exiting the vehicle and running away.

Officers caught up to him, and a gun was found inside the vehicle. Reed was arrested and faces charges including leaving the scene fo a crash, resisting an officer, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
