Florida Aquarium hosts Halloween for children with sensory disabilities

- The Florida Aquarium is once again holding its Sensory Guppyween for children with sensory disabilities ahead of opening for Guppyween for children of all ages.

Sensory Guppyween will be Saturday, October 28 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. There will be trick-or-treating and meet-and-greet opportunities with the aquarium's sea turtle mascot, Tango.

This low-stress event is designed for those with sensory processing disabilities. These individuals may not enjoy door-to-door trick-or-treating due to these disabilities.

The Aquarium is opening the doors early for Sensory Guppyween participants only and there will be no loud music, no flashing lights or special effects.

The Splash Pad will be open without running water or music playing and the Wetland’s Trail Gallery and 4-D Theater will be closed.

When Sensory Guppyween ends, participants are welcome to stay for normal operating hours, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and headphones will be available at the front desk.

Sensory Guppyween costs $5 for children and adults. All discounted tickets must be purchased at the Aquarium. The Florida Aquarium members & children under two get in free.

The early hour admission is for families of children with disabilities only.

And for those interested in visiting the Florida Aquarium's annual Guppyween, the event will be held Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29 from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

During Guppyween, kids can trick-or-treat throughout the Aquarium. There will be family-friendly entertainment and a sea of candy in a safe setting. All Aquarium exhibits, including the Aquarium’s outdoor plaza with the Fins cantina and The Splash Pad.

Special Guppyween activities include:

-Science experiments, crafts, and games in The Learning Center

-Halloween-themed close up critter tours

-Halloween-themed talks at the Ranger Stations located in the Aquarium’s Wetlands Trail gallery

-Surprise Halloween animal encounters

-Halloween-themed scavenger hunt

Tickets for Guppyween are regular price for adults, $10 for kids in costume 11-years and under, and kids 2 and under are free. 

Children not in costume are regular price. 

Tickets must be purchased at The Florida Aquarium to receive the discount.
