Fourth lane opens early on NB I-275

An overnight detour ended early for drivers on I-275 Tuesday morning.

Workers reopened the northbound lanes an hour ahead of schedule near Dale Mabry Highway after completing construction on a fourth lane to ease congestion for morning commuters.

The lane stretches from Westshore Boulevard to east of Himes Avenue.

According to an FDOT spokesperson, drivers have more time and distance to merge onto I-275 northbound from Dale Mabry Highway and Himes Avenue.

All of the main travel lanes are built for this project. Drivers can anticipate occasional night lane closures for some work activities remaining.

A spokesperson tells FOX 13 the ramp from Lois Avenue to northbound I-275 could reopen Tuesday afternoon after being closed for three years.

FOX 13 will continue with updates.
