PALMETTO, Fla. (FOX 13) - Hundreds of students in Manatee County rely on the hot meals served at school each day, but don't have that option during spring break.
Manatee County school officials understand that the one-week vacation could be a celebration for most but it can be stressful others, especially for students who may not be getting a school lunch. So, officials are hitting the road and bringing the meals to them.
The district's Nutrition Services team, and their colorful school bus, have scheduled five daily stops for the week of spring break. They plan to deliver and serve free lunches to students 18 years old or younger from March 25 to March 29.
The lunch bus will make stops across the northern and southern parts of the county, and will stay on site between 30 minutes to an hour. Lunches will be served at the following locations:
317 11th Street West
501 17th Street East
South East High School
1200 37th Avenue East
Bradenton Village Apartments
1302 3rd Street West
619 11th Avenue East
According to the Manatee County nutritionist, the lunch bus route can feed around 500 students daily.
