A kitten was rescued from the exhaust of a vehicle after it darted into Tampa traffic on Friday.

Drivers stopped on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard after spotting the young kitten in the roadway. According to witnesses, the frightened kitten jumped into the underbody of one of the cars and wouldn't come out.

Two USF students and a Hillsborough County deputy spent an hour trying to rescue the kitten. It was a Jiffy Lube worker who was eventually able to pull the kitten out of the exhaust pipe to safety.

The students said they named the kitten Carlos after the Jiffy Lube worker.
