Gas leak forces North Port evacuations

- A propane truck leak forced some Sarasota County mobile home residents to evacuate Thursday evening.

The leak began during a propane delivery at the Myakka River mobile home park off Tamiami Trail.

About 500 gallons of propane were on the leaking truck.  Fire crews doused the leak with water until it could be safely burned off.  Authorities tell us the leak was contained around 7:00 p.m.

Tamiami Trail -- which is also U.S. 41 -- was closed at the Myakka River and about 30 units in the mobile home park were evacuated.  Those roads were being reopened.
