Inmate attempts to take corrections officer's gun

- An inmate tried to steal a Marion County Corrections Officer's gun, and it was all caught on camera.

Lauren Lettelier, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office said officer Matthew Bowen was taking an inmate to his doctor’s appointment in Ocala.

They were walking through the parking lot to an inmate van when the inmate attacked the officer, trying to get his gun away from him.

Bowen used a training technique to keep his weapon and the inmate secure.

Lettelier said the inmate wasn't hurt, but Bowen got a few scrapes on his arms.

Lettelier said "We're glad that this officer used his training and was able to take control of the situation and make sure that everybody went home safe.

The Sheriff's Office tells FOX 35 that no policy changes or adjustments will be made. Additional training has already been completed with Corrections Officer Bowen.
