Lakeland's Confederate statue will cost $225,000 to move

- The report is in on the Confederate statue in Lakeland and whether it'll be relocated, but it all comes down to money.

Right now, the statue is located in Munn Park right in the middle of town.  Several months ago, city commissioners asked staff members to find out how much it would cost to move the statue, and where they could move it to.

Now, they say the destinations could be either Roselawn Memorial Cemetery’s Confederate section, or to Veteran’s Memorial Park.  Relocating it would cost about $225,000.

“Right now, there is nothing earmarked. The city commission could direct us to pay for it out of the general fund or they could tell us we have to go raise the money to move it,” explained city spokesman Kevin Cook.

There’s no date yet when commissioners are going to vote whether they are going to move the statue or not.
