Latest hit-and-run leaves man dead, wife hurt

State troopers are searching for a person of interest in a hit-and-run crash Sunday that killed 57-year-old Manuel Patino and seriously injured his wife Maria. It happened shortly after 11 a.m. on U.S. Highway 301 near Gerry Lane in Hillsborough County.

Troopers are looking for 30-year-old Leroy Roscoe Middleton from Archer, near Gainesville in Alachua County.

Pation's family is calling for the hit-and-run driver to come forward. "I would tell him to turn himself in. Somebody like that should be paying for what he did," said Edson Patino, 21, the son of Manuel and Maria.

Two grandchildren, ages 13 and 1, were in Manuel's Ford F-150 when it was hit from the back, but neither of the children were seriously injured.

Sgt. Steve Gaskins of the Florida Highway Patrol asked for the public's help finding the hit and run driver. "Call Crimestoppers and you could get a reward,” he said.
