Law enforcement reassures Tampa ahead of Bucs game

TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office addressed residents through social media after the deadly weekend shooting in Las Vegas.

In a video viewed thousands of times, Sheriff Chad Chronister praised Las Vegas first responders and discussed how Hillsborough County deputies train for active shooter situations every year.
  
According to Sheriff Chronister, venues like Raymond James Stadium, Amalie Arena and the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre demand law enforcement attention. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots are scheduled for a sold-out matchup at Raymond James Stadium Thursday.

“Your sheriff’s office is doing everything we can to prepare and train deputies to respond to a crisis, “ said Chronister in the video posted to Facebook. “No one is ready for a tragedy that can’t even be imagined like the one in Las Vegas, but through constant education and training we can all be prepared as much as possible to save lives.”

Deputies receive annual training for scenarios some could encounter in the field. This includes active shooter training. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office also works with state, local and federal agencies address evolving security needs. The sheriff encouraged residents to think about safety too.

“First responders across the nation learn from past tragedies, what didn’t work and what did,” said Chronister. “We incorporate the right answers into our training plan. There are no right answers to a situation that is impossible to plan for. You the individual must decide how to react but also educate yourself. Never forget that when a crisis erupts we are all in it together.”
