The Tampa Bay Lightning offered a group of fans a round-trip ride on the new Cross-Bay Ferry to encourage people to consider the new option.

The school group boarded the ferry in St. Pete and took it to Saturday night's game against San Jose.

Riders say they would consider the ferry for other Lightning games and events in downtown Tampa.

"We would pay for this absolutely. I think it's cheaper than gas and the fun factor for the kids we would do it again and again. No doubt," said Laurie Fair.

Officials say the Cross-Bay Ferry has had a phenomenal first week. They say 70% of the seats last weekend were full.

Currently the ferry only operates on weekends, but seven-day service will begin November 28. Ticket information and a schedule can be found at CrossBayFerry.com.
