TAMPA (FOX 13) - A 12- and 14-year-old were hurt when a lightning strike caused a tree and power lines to come down near E. Osborne Avenue and N. 37th Street in Tampa.
The aunt of 12-year-old Jemeal and 14-year-old Jemireka said the two will be OK after touching a fence electrified by a downed power line.
Firefighters say lightning from storms that moved through the area around 7 p.m. struck a tree, which collapsed on power lines. Those lines then came in contact with the chain-link fence.
The children ran outside to see what caused a loud crash and touched the fence.
A neighbor said he heard the crash and ran to his door to see what made the noise. He said he saw a fireball and called 911.
The children were taken to Tampa General Hospital to be checked out. The family says they cannot stay at the home tonight because the power was out. TECO was there working to restore it.
