Local MMA fighter finds strength in family

Jeremy "Pretty Boy" Davis is an MMA fighter, scratching and clawing his way to fulfill his dream to compete in the UFC.

Training is grueling but Davis leans on his mom especially when he needs words of strength, encouragement or inspiration.

"I'm surrounded by fighters" Jeremy told FOX 13.

"An old wives tale that says the person closest to you feels your pain," said Melissa Pfeiffer, Jeremy's mother..

Which can go both ways, not only for Jeremy's battle, but for Melissa's as well, who has battled cancer four times.

"I have learned that I am a fighter. I can overcome any obstacle placed in front of me," Melissa said.

"To know that I have a mother who has fought cancer four times and won on the championship round. That's how i look at it for myself." Jeremy said.  "In UFC, there are five rounds and you go through blood, sweat, and tears each round, and I've seen her do that."

FOX 13 learned that all the breast cancer was removed, and Melissa will head back in about three weeks for further testing.
