Man shot after argument at St. Pete gas station

ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Police in St. Petersburg say a bicyclist is in the hospital with a gunshot wound after he threw coffee on another man during an argument at a Wawa.

The shooting happened Sunday afternoon at an intersection on 22nd Avenue North just west of I-275.

Officers say 34-year-old Bryan Stevens, the bicyclist, got into an argument with 59-year-old Vincent Pontone at the gas station on 22nd.  That allegedly led to Stevens throwing coffee on Pontone.

According to investigators, Stevens then rode away from the Wawa, going east. That’s when police say Pontone got in his car and went the same direction.

Investigators say Pontone told them that he was in fear after Stevens aggressively approached him at the intersection while waiting for the eastbound traffic light to change. Pontone pulled out his gun and fired two shots, striking Stevens in the upper torso twice. Paramedics rushed Stevens to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Hospital, and he has been stabilized.

Police say Pontone stayed on the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
